Although Root Canal Therapy (RCT) is a procedure that makes many people feel uneasy, at Infinity Dental Care Winston Hills, it is a treatment that can be completed in comfort.
Root Canal Therapy involves the removal of a diseased or injured nerve from inside the tooth. It is a procedure designed to save a tooth that without treatment may need to be removed.
With the many pain relief options available at Infinity Dental Care it is not the painful procedure many people perceive. Root Canal Therapy requires detailed and precise work and will often be completed over several appointments. Detailed x-rays may also be required during the treatment.
Once you are comfortable in one of our patient lounges, a rubber sheet – called a dam – is placed around your tooth. This will isolate surrounding teeth and prevent any infection from spreading.
After an access chamber is made in the outer tooth enamel, very fine instruments remove the diseased or damaged nerve. The tooth root is cleaned, sterilised and then filled with a biocompatible rubber compound for additional strength.
Often much of the tooth surface needs to be removed, therefore your tooth may require a crown at the completion of the RCT to restore strength, appearance and function. We will discuss this with you at your consultation appointment. Call us on (02) 9159 6237 or visit our practice in Winston Hills Mall at 180 Caroline Chisholm Drive, Winston Hills NSW 2153.
